HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – During the month of March, WestMass ElderCare in partnership with Meals on Wheels America, advocated the importance of senior nutrition through its #SaveLunch campaign.
In western Massachusetts, local leaders and state legislators helped deliver meals to seniors and see firsthand how nutrition programs like Meals on Wheels are important as funding has remained stagnant while inflation continues to rise.
According to WestMass ElderCare, the following officials participated in supporting the older adults in their community:
- Chicopee Mayor John Vieau
- Representative Dan Carey
- South Hadley Town Administrator Lisa Wong
- Representative Shirley Arriaga
- Senator Jake Oliveira
- Representative Pat Duffy
- Ludlow Town Administrator Marc Strange
- Councilman and Legislative Aide Juan Anderson-Burgos
- Senator Peter Durant
“We are immensely grateful to have the support of our local and state legislators in our efforts to ensure that no older adult goes hungry,” said Roseann Martoccia, Executive Director of WestMass ElderCare. “Their participation in the #SaveLunch campaign not only raises awareness about senior nutrition but also underscores the importance of community engagement and collaboration in addressing critical issues facing our aging population.”
Meals on Wheels delivers food to thousands of homebound seniors in nearly a dozen Pioneer Valley communities every weekday.
